Volunteers of the Week: Jim and Ilene Woodman
Jim and Ilene Woodman have been volunteering with Calhoun County Chapter of the American Red Cross for a combined 23 years. Jim began his volunteer experience after he retired in 1991. Ilene joined Jim nine years later upon her retirement.
The Woodman′s have been a fixture around the office, serving in many capacities. They are both very involved with the blood department. Jim currently handles the scheduling of the blood shuttle drivers, as well as driving the shuttle himself. They both work at blood drives, and Jim often is recruited to deliver the canteen to the drives. Together they are instrumental with the sponsorship of one, often two, blood drives annually at which the United Commercial Travelers of America provide a meal.
In addition to their volunteer time spent with the blood department, they help out around the office. Ilene has assisted with data entry, receptionist, and many other office tasks when asked. Jim has become one of our many "handy-man" helpers. They can both be counted on to provide a cheery smile and a hearty hello.
When asked about the Woodman's and their volunteerism, Marybeth Wilson, Blood Drive Coordinator stated "They have been a tremendous support; I can always count on them in a pinch!"
The Woodman's are a fine example of the Red Cross Volunteers. Without volunteers such as them, the Red Cross could not accomplish as much as it does. Jim and Ilene, we salute you for all you have done, and continue to do, for the Calhoun County Chapter of the American Red Cross.
