|
- Volunteer blood donors are the only source of blood products for hospital patients.
- To donate blood, you must be in good general health, at least 17 years old, and weigh at least 110 pounds.
- Nearly 97 percent of us will need a blood transfusion in our lifetime.
- Just five percent of the U.S. population donates blood.
- Every two seconds, someone in the United States needs blood.
- The American Red Cross considers a three-day supply of all blood types to be safe and adequate for meeting emergency and ongoing medical needs.
- The Great Lakes Region of the American Red Cross needs 800 to 900 people to volunteer to donate blood every week day to maintain the three-day supply of all blood types.
- Blood donations are always needed. It is an important part of preparedness for us to make blood donation a regular part of our lives.
- If you would like to help ensure a strong blood supply, call the American Red Cross to schedule an appointment in the coming days and weeks.
- Please give blood. Call 1-800-GIVE LIFE or visit www.givelife.org.
