The American Red Cross, Calhoun County Chapter, in partnership with the Battle Creek VA Medical Center hosted an Open House August 24, 2009 to honor Elizabeth Peckham for her service as a Deputy National Representative, American Red Cross Veterans Affairs Voluntary Service, during the period January 2004 to March 2009.
Mrs. Peckham, a Registered Nurse, has been active in the Red Cross since her High School days in Richland Mi. In 1971 she started to volunteer at the Calhoun County Red Cross doing blood histories, teaching Health & Safety Courses and working in the office of volunteers. She has represented the Red Cross at the VA Medical Center since 1972 serving Veterans and their families.
1986 was the year she assumed the management of the Coffee Room for the VA Voluntary Service while representing the Red Cross and has remained in that position until September 2009.
Mrs. Peckham had organized and supported Watermelon Fest and Carnival Day and many other VA Activities during her career as a Red Cross VAVS volunteer, and will continue to participate in some activities at the VA Medical Center.
Elizabeth Peckham was awarded a plaque from National American Red Cross Service to the Armed Forces commemorating her service by Joni Hatch CEO of the Calhoun County Chapter of the Red Cross at the event attended by friends, family and peers.
The Director of the Battle Creek Medical Center Ms.Susanne Klinker and Associate Director Edward Dornoff, FACHE, praised Mrs. Peckhams efforts on behalf of the VA Medical Center and a social hour with refreshments were provided by the staff of Community Living and Voluntary Service of the Medical Center and the Calhoun County Chapter of the American Red Cross volunteers.
Elizabeth Schleb Peckham has served her community, the Red Cross and the veterans in such heartfelt ways through out her years of service, and the professional manner in which she has given her time and talents serve as a roll model for all to emulate. The Calhoun Count Chapter of the American Red Cross is proud to have Elizabeth Peckham as a volunteer.
