LOCAL VOLUNTEER RECIEVES PRESTIGIOUS NATIONAL AWARD
On June 25,The American Red Cross, Calhoun County Chapter and the Battle Creek VA Medical Center joined together to honor Dr Peckham with a reception at the Battle Creek VA . Joni Hatch, Chief Executive Officer of the Calhoun County Chapter, presented Dr Peckham with a plack to commemorate the prestigious 2008 Male Volunteer award from the American Red Cross Veterans Affairs Voluntary Services (VAVS). Mr. Tony Zapata, FACHE, Director of the Battle Creek Medical Center spoke to Dr. Peckham’s dedicated volunteer service at the VA Medical Center and his wonderful giving spirit. Along with many friends and family, peers from the Red Cross and the VA, Dr. Peckham enjoyed the reception that followed the presentation of the award.
Dr. Peckham served in the Navy during WWII and after years of education and several degrees from WMU, U of M and SMU his career in education brought him to Harper Creek School System in 1971 where he served as superintendent until his retirement in 1980.
Dr. Peckham’s accomplishments extend into the community in many ways. He has served as an Emmett Township Supervisor, Chairman of the Emmett Township Planning Committee, and the Emmett Township Board of Appeals. Other commitments to his community have been with the VFW, BC Civic Theater, American Legion, and St Joseph Catholic Church.
Gordon Peckham is married to Elizabeth (Schelb) and they have six children and sixteen grand children.
The Red Cross, Calhoun County chapter wants to take this opportunity to congratulate Gordon on his achievements, and to his commitment to the Red Cross Mission, and we are happy to have him as a roll model for volunteering.
