Daniel Peterson Red Cross Volunteer Saluted!
Daniel Peterson is an invaluable member of the Calhoun County Chapter of the American Red Cross. He provides much needed skills to the Chapter’s efforts despite personal sacrifice, devoting his days between a job and his volunteer work. On average, he usually works a combined 85 hours a week.
Dan began his work at the Red Cross in May of 2008 while attending college, and he has contributed over 1,200 volunteer hours to this day. Currently he is head of logistical support for the Chapter’s health and safety courses. He personally coordinates, prepares and then teaches classes on CPR, AED, and first aid. By personally training others in these fields, his work ultimately fosters a safer environment for the community.
In addition to heading logistical support at the chapter, his other duties include a wide variety of “odd jobs” including cleaning and assembling CPR manikins, running errands, performing data entry, and assisting other volunteers in their work. As the Health and Safety Coordinator, Kandra Bennett jokingly observed that “[Dan] is my right and left arm and often my feet as well!” His willingness to work and his good natured attitude has left an impression on his fellow co-workers.
Despite often working 12 hours a day, Dan gladly performs his work cheerfully. He enjoys the variety of assignments and tasks that he is put to work on and finds his work to be very fulfilling. The American Red Cross relies upon the goodwill of volunteers such as Dan to continue its mission.
Whenever Dan is not volunteering he attends college as a full time student, holds a research fellowship, and participates in Collegiate Competitive Forensics.
