The American Red Cross, Calhoun County Chapter, has had an active Clown Troupe since 1985. It is the only active Red Cross Clown Troupe in the Midwest.
The goals and objectives of the Clown Troupe are to represent the American Red Cross and bring cheer and humor to all in the community. The troupe visits nursing homes, senior centers, parades, school fun fairs, company picnics, community events and more.
The Clown Troupe participates in
community events throughout the year. Troupe members entertain people of all ages
with balloon art, magic tricks, face painting and general silliness and fun.
Initial requests to have the clown troupe attend an event are
handled through the Red Cross Chapter House office. These requests
are then passed on to the Troupe President who follows up with a
phone call and takes the request to the group at its monthly
meetings. At that time, troupe members decide whether to accept the
request, depending on prior troupe commitments. This information is
then relayed to the requesting individual or organization.
It is important that requests for the Clown Troupe are received at least eight weeks prior to the event. Requests are based on a first requested, first booked basis. These requests should be submitted in writing and will be submitted at the Troupe meeting , which is typically the first Thursday of the month. Download, and complete the request form, then send to: American Red Cross, PO Box 1380, Battle Creek, MI 49016, Attention: Volunteer Coordinator.
Individuals or organizations that do not have 501 (c)3 non-profit
status are asked to make a donation to the Red Cross Clowns for
their services. This donation can be given to the clowns at the time
of the event or sent directly to the Red Cross address above and
should be made out to the American Red Cross and clearly marked Red
Cross Clowns.
Many well known local clowns started out by taking classes with the Red Cross Clown Troupe. Come join the parade. We are always looking for a few good clowns! If you would like to attend a clown class or join the Troupe, please call: 269.962.7528. Junior classes are held in the spring and adult classes are held in the fall.
