Baby Think It Over (CGBAB101)
This program is included in all Babysitter's Training Camps and Babysitter's Training Classes. The "Baby Think It Over" program places children into a parenting/babysitting simulation. Students are asked to bring home a baby simulator over night or up to three nights. The baby will cry and acts like a real infant who needs constant care including; holding, feeding, burping, rocking and diapering. The baby recognizes when it is being neglected by crying and the babysitter must learn to make decisions under pressure. The simulator records how well it is taken care of and if there is any neglect shown. Neglect is recorded after one minute of crying and not being tended to correctly or not having the need of the baby identified. This simulation will help the babysitter learn the mistakes that they have made before watching a real baby. The simulator records rough handling, head support failures and shaken baby syndrome. Students who choose to participate in the Baby Think It Over portion of class are asked to fill out two surveys – One prior to taking the baby home and one after taking the baby home. These survey's will ask students questions about their views on parenting and are intended to help facilitate discussions between parents and their children. Parents can view a copy of these surveys on our web site at http://calhounbranchmi.redcross.org/health.html. Students are not required to complete the Baby Think It Over portion of class to receive certification in the Babysitter's Training class.
