Scam Aimed at Military Families

Originally, the American Red Cross was founded to aid fallen soldiers on the battlefield.  Today, around the clock and around the globe, during times of personal crisis, the American Red Cross keeps the American people in touch with their family members serving in the United States military.
Wherever United States military troops are located, Red Cross employees and volunteers are there to meet their special needs. The Red Cross provides reporting and communication services through a network which links members of the military any place in the world with their loved ones back home. Last year, the Calhoun County Chapter handled over 300 military communication cases.

  • With 24-hour, 7-days-a-week, 365-days-a-year emergency communication services reaching military installations, embassies and ships at sea around the world.
  • With 26,831volunteers serving in Red Cross chapters throughout the United States and on military installations worldwide.
With a worldwide emergency communication network with two Armed Forces Emergency Centers, 987 chapters across the nation and offices on 109 military installations around the world.

  • How Can You Help? Become an AFES volunteer with the Calhoun County Chapter of the Red Cross.  Help members of the military by processing military communications and making presentations to the military and their families about Red Cross services to the military.  Training is free and hours are flexible.
  • Make a financial donation.  The Red Cross was mandated by a congressional charter in 1905 to act as a medium of communication between members of the U.S. Armed Forces and their families; however, the Red Cross does not receive funding from the government.  To make a financial donation to support the AFES program and other vital local Red Cross services call (269) 962-7528.
