Disaster Action Teams are Ready

The American Red Cross is ready to help when a house or apartment fire occurs no matter where and when in Calhoun & Branch Counties. We are also prepared in the event that other types of disasters occur such as a tornado, winter storm, power outages or a flood. The Calhoun County Chapter has volunteers assigned to the Disaster Action Team (DAT) who carry a pager and are on call any time that the office is closed. Each disaster action team is made up of at least 2 trained disaster workers who are on-call during evenings and on weekends to respond to house and apartment fires at a moment's notice. Volunteers are generally on-call one week per month and this shift rotates from team to team. DAT members will assess fire damage, offer emotional support to console families, and provide them with immediate emergency assistance, based on each individual case. In the event that there is a large scale disaster in our area, our volunteers are trained to open a shelter to house large groups of people and families. We are prepared to respond 24/7/365 to an emergency. You can reach our on-call worker any time that the office is closed at 269.417.0218.
